As one of few Art Moderne houses in Washington, DC, this 1930s residence was viewed as an extremely important historic structure.

Washington, DC – Private Residence

Project Details

The new owners sought to renovate the existing residence while making sympathetic additions to allow for the spaces required by their extended family. The use of Crittall windows and doors was critical to the success of this project. All existing windows were replaced and large new windows and doors were added to allow for a greater connection from the residence to the garden. Patterning of the light divisions in these Crittall products also extended the geometric detailing of the existing residence.

While it was critical to respond to the historic issues of this project, we also sought to greatly improve the energy efficiency of the new structure. All of the sustainable design features were incorporated in a way that was not intrusive to this historic character.
